FEIverse - Chinese Calligraphy for Contemporary Spaces
May has been a month of stillness and depth. Three new works leave the studio — each one rooted in a different tradition, each one written by hand, one brushstroke at a time.
This month's works draw from the Heart Sutra — two phrases that sit at the core of Buddhist philosophy — and one phrase that has lived in the hearts of generations through music and longing. Each piece carries a different kind of weight, and a different kind of freedom.
May's new works explore emptiness, impermanence, and boundless possibility — ideas that have shaped Buddhist and Taoist thought for centuries, and that continue to resonate with those seeking stillness in a busy world.
"Form is emptiness, emptiness is form." The Heart Sutra distills one of Buddhism's most profound teachings into a handful of characters — and 五蘊皆空 sits at its very heart.
The five aggregates — form, sensation, perception, mental formations, and consciousness — are the building blocks we use to construct a sense of self. This phrase reminds us that none of them are fixed, none of them are permanent. What we cling to as "I" is, in truth, open and boundless.
This piece is for those drawn to Buddhist philosophy, or anyone who finds peace in letting go.
Individually handwritten using traditional brush and ink on premium Xuan paper. Presented in a minimalist aluminum frame (black or silver) with clear acrylic front protection. 14 × 14 in.
Where 五蘊皆空 speaks of the self, 諸法空相 speaks of all phenomena. All things — every object, every experience, every concept — share the same nature: empty of inherent, independent existence.
This is not nihilism. It is liberation. When we see that nothing is fixed, we stop grasping. We move more lightly through the world.
A companion piece to 五蘊皆空, and a natural pairing for those who wish to display both teachings together.

海闊天空 — the sea is vast, the sky is wide. This phrase carries the spirit of limitless possibility, of breaking free from what confines us.
It is also the title of one of the most beloved Cantonese rock songs ever written — by the band Beyond. Released in 1993, the song became an anthem for dreamers, for those who refused to give up, for anyone who has ever felt the pull of something larger than their circumstances. The phrase has lived in the hearts of generations ever since.
This piece is written on semi-raw Xuan paper with a warm gold-flecked texture, and presented in a solid wood frame — walnut or teak — with mortise-and-tenon joinery, ultra-clear organic glass, and a removable mat. A different material language for a different kind of feeling.
10.8″ L × 8.9″ W × 1.2″ D. ~1.4 lb.
All FEIverse artworks are entirely handmade, from brushwork to mounting and framing. We use traditional Xuan paper, carefully selected inks, and frames designed to protect the artwork while remaining visually understated. Each piece is suitable for wall or tabletop display.
